Parents should dim the lights for preschoolers for the hour before bedtime, suggest scientists at the University of Colorado Boulder, who recently conducted research on the impact of pre-bedtime light on melatonin levels. Bright lights prior to bedtime can result in much lower levels of melatonin (which helps us fall asleep) for up to 50 minutes after being put to bed. In the study, one hour of bright lights before bedtime reduced melatonin levels by88%.
