Cognitive Skills Training Learning Disabilities

Cognitive Skills Training for Students with Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities often involve weaknesses in one or more of the important cognitive skills, sometimes referred to as brain skills, involved in learning. These skills including mental processes like working memory and other executive functions, attention, visual-spatial understanding, auditory processing and the integration of multiple mental processes to work together. Research is now showing that cognitive processes can be strengthened, rather than just working around them, and the impact on learning struggles and on academic performance can be rapid and dramatic.

Traditional support for students with learning disabilities has addressed three primary pillars: accommodation, modification of the curriculum, and strategies. Cognitive skills training is coming to be recognized as the fourth pillar – one that improves the functioning of underlying learning skills. Join us as we explore the science and practicalities of cognitive skills training (brain training programs) and the outcomes for students.

This webinar is designed for a broad audience including educators, clinicians, parents and advocates for children with learning disabilities.
