STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) are both getting a lot of attention lately, but it is only recently that the two crop up in the same article, much less the same sentence. In recent research conducted at Google, STEM skills were eighth on the list of skills that predicted success at the technology giant, preceded by skills most articles called “soft skills.” These “soft skills” included “possessing insights into others” and “having empathy,” skills commonly considered the province of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
In this webinar, we explore the driving forces behind the push for STEM and SEL, the relationship between SEL and STEM, and the underlying skills that support both. We hope to show that, far from being disconnected, the two are, indeed, a perfect match.
